Reverse Transfer Printers

We have customers calling in to ask our opinion on a number of things on a daily basis.  One question we get a lot is "how does a reverse transfer printer work?"  We get this question a lot more since the reverse transfer printers are closer to the initial cost of direct to card printers now more than ever.
Fargo HDP 5000 Printer
There are three main reasons a customer may choose a retransfer printer over a traditional direct to card printer:

  1. HD Image Quality: A retransfer printer first prints it's image on retransfer film in it's entirety, then that film is fused onto your card.  This method allows for intense color creation and more detailed designs possibilities.
  2. Printing Flexibility: Since the print head never comes in direct contact with your card, a retransfer printer can sometimes be used to print onto clamshell cards and cards with embedded contact chips without causing harm to the printer or the card.
  3. Durability: The basic printing process of a retransfer printer automatically creates a protective layer to defend against every day wear and tear on your cards, helping them to keep their brilliant image quality longer than any other printer.
We hope this helps you in your next ID card printer purchase.

New Fargo Printers

DTC1000
Let’s start with the DTC1000. This is a nice little printer that provides an ideal card printing solution for very small businesses, small schools, and small local governments that need a simple, reliable, and affordable means of printing and encoding photo ID cards. Although the DTC1000 is a and reliable printer, it does not have a display screen to inform you what is wrong if anything were to happen to it. All it would have is an LED located in the power button which would blink when it would need service. Another reason to look into a higher model is that the DTC1000 does not offer a warranty that would send you a replacement in the case of its failure to work. The higher models offer a warranty that sends you a temporary printer while yours is being fixed so you are not left without one for a week or more.

This brings me to your next Fargo option which is only a few hundred dollars more (MSRP) and comes with many more options such as a beautiful display screen to help with troubleshooting.

DTC4000
This is the DTC4000 which offers field upgradability, so it can adapt to changes you need when you need them, and the options to add dual sided printing functionality, magnetic stripe encoding, HID Proximity encoding (125 kHz), iCLASS contactless encoding (13.56 MHz), contact chip encoding, Ethernet connectivity, and a high-capacity ID card hopper.

DTC4500
The next step up is the DTC4500 which offers professional quality, full color ID cards and security encoding--all in one pass. Also, operation and supply replacement are both intuitive, making extensive training unnecessary. This printer is only about $300 more than the previous model and, can print, encode, fluorescent print, and laminate security cards (single- or dual-sided) with a very fast print speed. Its superior performance makes it ideal for users who need the high volume print runs where quality and security are most important. Another great feature is that the Ethernet comes standard with this model.

HDP5000
The final printer in which I will be discussing is the HDP5000. It is backed with a lifetime print head warranty and two-year warranty on everything else. High reliability and durability lowers your total cost of ownership, and affordable pricing makes High Definition Printing available to practically any business. If the image of your company is high on your priority list, this is the printer for you. It offers dual-sided printing, single- or dual-sided lamination, and card encoding technologies which are all field-upgradeable features. It also offers as a standard that cards, ribbons, and overlaminates come in cartridges that load quickly and easily. This printer offers many other useful options that can be described to you through one of our sales associates. If you are at all interested, I highly advise you to contact one of our representatives, even if it is to just compare printers and prices.

Why Custom ID Supplies?

We talk to hundreds of customers and prospects daily, and some of them ask why they should pay a little more to get their lanyards and retractable badge reels custom printed.  Here are just a few reasons to "go custom":
  • Professionalism
  • Security (for both your company and your employees)
  • Employee satisfaction
  • Mirror marketing strategies
  • Advertising at events
  • Rewarding employees
Employees are proud to show off where they work, and custom supplies make it harder for an intruder to duplicate a lanyard or badge reel while walking around your company's campus. Custom ID supplies are becoming more and more standard to industries and business’ in today’s market being that they show the professionalism a company might strive for, and leave their mark on the consumer, all while making the work place a safer and a little more enjoyable environment. Ask yourself, “Why be average when you can easily become above average for a little more?”

There are many other wonderful reasons to upgrade to customized ID supplies, so please, give our knowledgeable sales people a call to discuss any ideas you may have.  We'll do our best to find the perfect solution that best fits your needs! And remember, At One Source Industries, we bring your badging ideas to LIFE!

A Recent Press Release - What is in it for our Clients?

The following is the opening paragraph of a recent press release issued by Xceed ID regarding One Source Industries newest relationship.

XceedID and One Source Industries Form Technology Partnership

GOLDEN, COL. – XceedID, a leading manufacturer of contactless cards and readers, and One Source Industries, an online provider of identification products, have formed a distribution partnership in which One Source customers have access to XceedID's vast portfolio of products, including proximity cards.

As I asked above, what is in it for our clients?   Tested Performance!  Actually, a very reliable, lower priced alternative in access card and card reader technology.  So what is the real advantage to working with One Source Industries and Xceed ID?  Well even though this press release was recently issued, the relationship between these two companies has been a long standing one with One Source Industries becoming one of the largest distributors of Xceed ID products in the U.S.

We have had the opportunity to test these cards in many applications over the past 12 months with great success. This means you now have a viable alternative.  We have found several companies now producing cards and/or readers attempting to match the quality of these products.  Guess what?  No Luck!!  Not even close!!  Don't do it!!  Failure rates are high and DOA rates out of the box are unacceptable.  Take my word on it we have seen them and used them.

The other advantage you receive through Xceed ID, is the terrific support and warranty on all products, backed by One Source Industries expertise and the deep pockets of Ingersoll Rand, parent of Xceed ID, this is a win, win for the client.
Wait no longer.....the reliability and service is now available and the pricing helps save your security budget.

Until next time....

Gary

Gary Woodward - A Brief Background on the President/CEO

The start of 2011 has been busy with our newly developed website and now a Blog to better assist with keeping you informed about the Access Control/Photo ID Industry as well as new developments at One Source Industries.  As I will often post to our Blog I wanted to give you a brief history of my background, just so you know my experience and credentials within the industry.  Hopefully this is not too boring, but lends credibility to the information I will provide in the future.

A Brief Bio

Since 1984 I have worked and consulted with a variety of companies ranging from small business start-ups, to established Fortune 500 companies, as well as airports, universities, hospitals and government entities.

With 27 years experience in the security industry and more that 22 years experience in access control and ID badging,  I have gained deep and expert knowledge in the security industry.  My desire to share this knowledge was the impetus for starting One Source Industries in 1998.  Since then I have been fortunate to be able to provide sound advice and quality product solutions to companies wishing to secure their facilities through a sound access control and badging plan.

One Source Industries is specifically designed to consult with, design and provide the products that secure their facilities and employees.  Prior to incorporating One Source Industries, I served as a security consultant and design engineer for the largest security company worldwide, ADT Security, as well as National Guardian (SecurityLink) and Foreline Security.

  • Designing, developing and implementing access control and Photo ID badging plans and systems for fast-paced, quick growing companies as well as major Fortune 500 companies.
  • Working as an advisor to security managers, HR personnel as well as CEO’s and CPP’s.
  • Introducing and implementing a variety of high technology and state-of-the-art products to help secure and identify.
  • Supporting clients by streamlining security plan changes and system upgrades.
A few past projects include design and consultation for:

General Electric, Los Angeles World Airport, Compaq Computers, Arthur Andersen, Raymond James, Xerox, University of Chicago, Denver International Airport, Capital One, Jacksonville Electric, JPMorganChase and Tenent HealthCare.
